Nami Island (Written in English)

Nami Island is a half-moon-shaped Island near Seoul that began rising its popularity since Winter Sonata first aired back in 2002. It's easy to go to Nami Island from Seoul; the most popular option is to get there by Subway or by ITX (Intercity Train Express).

To go there by ITX, you can book your ticket first through Korail's website. The ITX departs from Yongsan Station to Gapyeong Station. When I went there, I left from Cheongnyangni station, and it takes approximately 45 minutes from Cheongnyangni to Gapyeong station. As for the ticket, it cost 4300 won for adults. If you depart from Yongsan Station, it will take around 60 minutes.

To go there by Subway, you have to choose line Gyeongchun (the light blue colored line). It takes about 90 minutes to go to Gapyeong Station by subway from Cheongnyangni Station. Just so you don't get confused, the ITX and subway from Cheongnyangni depart from the same platform; you just have to pay attention to the information board, whether the passing train is the ITX or the regular subway. If you intended to board on the regular subway but ended up in an ITX, you could buy the ticket on the spot (inside the train) when the ticket guy passes to check your ticket.

Personally, I recommend you to take the ITX because it's so much faster and the price is still affordable. While by taking the regular subway you have to stop at 17 different stations, the ITX only stops at two stations (from Cheongnyangni). PLUS, by going there by ITX, you are guaranteed a numbered seat.

After arriving at Gapyeong Station, go outside the station, and you'll find the Gapyeong Tourist Shuttle Bus stop. This shuttle bus will stop in every tourist spot in Gapyeong, including the port to enter Nami Island, Interactive Art Museum, Petite France and Morning Calm Arboretum. You can buy the shuttle bus ticket inside the bus for 6.000 won. It's a one-day pass, so you're free to use the shuttle bus service to go to any other tourist spots in Gapyeong and to go back again to Gapyeong station (just don't lose the ticket!). It takes about 15 minutes by bus from Gapyeong station to The port of Nami Island.

(The shuttle bus departs every one hour from Gapyeong station, so make sure you don't miss it or you'll have to wait another hour for the bus.)

After you get into the port, you'll have to purchase a ticket to enter Nami Island and to use the ferry service. It costs approximately 8.000 won for adults. It takes about 10 minutes to finally arrive in Nami Island.

What to expect in Nami Island?
1. The first thing you'll notice is the famous lane full of trees. There are many types of trees in Nami Island, including the Metasequoia, Korean Pine, Cherry Tree, etc. Take a picture there under the white balloon-shaped lamps, and you'll be good.

2. Winter Sonata's first kiss spot. I've never watched Winter Sonata, so I don't know how it looks in the drama, but at the first kiss spot you'll see two tables with statues of kissing snowmen on them. Behind it is a beautiful lake, making an excellent combination for a perfect picture. As I was there with my friend, we helped a Korean couple to take a picture there, and they suddenly kissed. So I guess this spot is famous for a kissing pic?!

3. The beautiful lake. Seriously, just sit there and do nothing but stare at the peaceful view. It was near sunset when I was there, and you wouldn't wanna miss the combination of sunset and the lake. You can also rent a bike to ride along the lake for only 3.000 won an hour.

4. The galleries. There are lots of mini galleries on Nami Island. Some of them are galleries about Winter Sonata, some of them are about the Nami Island itself. Just hop from one gallery to another; you'll find some interesting information.
